2026年6月8日、フィリピン南部ミンダナオ島付近を震源とするマグニチュード8.2（米地質調査所はM7.8）の巨大地震が発生し、これまでに少なくとも35人が死亡、10人以上の行方が分かっていない。震源に近い地域では建物が倒壊し、フィリピン・インドネシア・日本沿岸でも小規模な津波が観測された。日本でも気象庁が一時津波注意報を発表し、9日朝までにすべて解除された。フィリピン政府は救助活動を急ぐとともに、余震への警戒を呼びかけている。環太平洋火山帯の活発化が改めて浮き彫りとなった形だ。
