Canada Wildfire: B.C. Declares Emergency as 20,000 Evacuate Amid Bald Range Blaze |#shorts
British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as the fast-moving Bald Range wildfire continues to spread rapidly across the province’s southern interior. The wildfire nearly doubled in size overnight, reaching approximately 9,500 hectares, and forced thousands of residents to flee communities including Summerland, Peachland and surrounding areas west of Okanagan Lake. Police blocked Highway 97 in Penticton as thick smoke filled the air and directed residents away from the fire zone.

Evacuees were sent to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre for shelter. Officials said more than 20,000 people across British Columbia have been forced to evacuate their homes, making the Bald Range fire the largest evacuation event in the province so far this summer. Many residents fled overnight toward Penticton and Kelowna before highways began closing. The wildfire is also threatening a major wine-producing region in Canada.
