Garden Grover Workers Rights During Emergency

If you work in or near Garden Grove, you may be wondering: do I have to go to work during the chemical emergency?

In California, there is not always a blanket right to miss work just because there’s an emergency nearby.

But if there is an evacuation order, or an emergency condition, and you reasonably believe the worksite is unsafe, your employer generally cannot punish you for refusing to report or for leaving work.

That is especially important right now because Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Orange County in response to the Garden Grove chemical incident.

If you are in the evacuation zone, follow official instructions. Do not risk your safety just because your employer wants you to come in.
