Emergency declared for Hidden Valley after flash flooding

State and local officials have begun assessing damage in Washoe County after severe storms and flooding hit Hidden Valley and nearby areas, prompting an emergency declaration and a request for state help.

On June 22, the Washoe County manager declared a state of emergency in response to flooding and storm impacts that began at about 6 p.m. on June 19, 2026.

Officials said the severe weather caused significant flooding that damaged homes, infrastructure and private property across the affected area.

Washoe County has requested assistance from state partners to conduct Preliminary Damage Assessments, a required step to evaluate the extent and severity of damage to residents and public infrastructure.

Teams will work with local officials to document impacts and determine whether losses meet the financial thresholds and eligibility criteria needed to apply for a federal disaster declaration.

Officials emphasized that disaster assistance is not automatically approved.

Federal financial assistance can be authorized only if damage meets statutory and financial thresholds and required assessment and declaration processes are completed.

Final approval is at the discretion of President Trump.
