“We Can’t Slow Down”: Pilot Declares Emergency After Throttle Gets Stuck
A pilot declared an emergency after reporting that the throttle on her Skyhawk had become stuck at power, leaving her unable to slow the aircraft. Remaining remarkably calm, she told air traffic control she would use pitch and flaps to manage her speed before shutting the engine down with the mixture control during the landing. The controller immediately cleared traffic, offered a longer approach, and had emergency crews standing by. After an incredibly tense approach, the aircraft touched down safely without injuries. Moments later, the relieved pilot simply asked for a tow back to parking, prompting the controller to congratulate her with, “That was amazing. Well done.” It was a remarkable example of composure, professionalism, and teamwork between a skilled pilot and air traffic control that helped turn what could have been a disaster into a safe landing.

Just turn off the engine and glide?
Wow! I hope she keeps this for her TMAAT senario in an interview
What's mixture idle ?
Before I went up with the examiner, I had to demonstrate an engine-off approach and landing from 2000' above the field. So, that was indeed "a little problem", in her own words.
Awesome management of the situation, AND inadvertently drew a dih on the map? So based.
Can‘t she just turn the engine off?
Go carb heat out, single mag, long runway.
I believe proper protocol calls for all out panic not calmly solving a problem.😂
Damn they actually flew over MY house!
🤯👍🏻💙👏🏻🤷🏼

additionally, you’d want to shut down one bank of mags😊
Nice job. We got the throttle stuck in an MD-80 with climb power one time. Only thing to do was cut the fuel to the engine. It worked fine. We had another engine to get back. Turns out a red shop rag was left inside the throttle quadrant and got stuck.
Calm and cool under pressure. I’m looking to get my private pilot license and I’d like to be as cool as she is.
great job!
That's a 2021 Cessna 172S. It's pretty new for a mechanical problem with the throttle.
Awesome job! I've rented that plane before. Crazy to see the tail number again on youtube! Congrats to all!
Really well done!! Old sewing with pitch flaps and a roll off wheels down mixture. Nice flying!
Wow
"…traffic off our left in sight"
easy said, but couldnt she just sideslip that mf down?
i don't hear a problem…eventually the engine will quit producing power and you land.
Lucky to say I’ve flown with this badass a TON, and she’s one of the best airman/airwoman I’ve ever met. And this is proof she’s unflappable under pressure!
Doesn’t hurt she’s one of the nicest people you’ll meet, too. Truly a great representation of what an Aviator/Aviatrix should be! ☺️
Calm, cool and collected. Bravo to the pilot.
