Delta Pilots Put On Oxygen Masks After Fumes Fill Aircraft
Delta Air Lines Flight 702 was descending into Boston on August 22 when the pilots declared an emergency after fumes were detected onboard, forcing the crew to put on their oxygen masks and ask ATC to get them on the ground as quickly as possible. The Airbus A321neo was flying from Salt Lake City to Boston with 200 people onboard when the crew reported the fume event and about 7,300 pounds of fuel remaining. Boston controllers immediately began working the aircraft toward Logan, telling the pilots their speed was at their discretion before clearing them to land on Runway 4 Right, with emergency services standing by. The plane landed safely, and the crew briefly stopped on a taxiway to check on the cabin. After confirming that the fumes had mostly subsided but were still slightly present, the pilot told the tower they wanted to get to the gate “as quick as possible.”
