Venezuela Earthquakes: Nearly 1500 Dead, Families Sheltering

Venezuela has declared a national emergency following two consecutive 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude earthquakes in the north-central region of the country, putting thousands of families at risk.

As of 28 June, nearly 1500 people have died and over 3,200 have been injured.

Power and communication outages in some areas mean that the full extent of the damage is yet to be seen.

Save the Children and local partners began responding within 24 hours of the earthquakes and are delivering lifesaving support to children and families affected.

With our partners, we are working in affected areas, with the initial response focused on La Guaira, Catia La Mar and the worst affected parts of Caracas.
