“I Need To Go To The HOSPITAL ” Delta Captain Has Medical Emergency

A Delta flight from Los Angeles to Boston was forced to divert to Detroit after the captain himself became seriously ill in the cockpit. Delta Flight 437 declared a medical emergency and was cleared for an expedited landing, but then came the moment that made the ATC exchange especially unusual: the captain got on the radio himself and told the controller, “I’m the one that’s ill.” Despite being the person needing medical attention, he explained that he planned to taxi the aircraft to the gate before heading straight to the hospital. After landing safely, there was some confusion when the crew was assigned Alpha 13, a gate that appeared unable to accommodate their Boeing 757, so they continued toward Alpha 10 instead.
