2026 Numaga Indian Days Powwow amid Nevada wildfire emergency

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony has canceled the 2026 Numaga Indian Days Powwow & Handgames, which had been scheduled for September 4 through 6 in Hungry Valley.

The tribe said it remains under a state of emergency because of the recent Bug, Fred Mountain and Hawk fires and their impacts on the community and the surrounding region.

After what it described as careful consideration, the Tribal Council determined canceling the gathering was necessary to prioritize the safety of tribal members, residents, employees, participants and visitors.

“Our community has experienced evacuations, wildfire threats, and continued emergency response and recovery efforts. While we understand the importance of Numaga Indian Days to our people, the safety and well-being of our community must remain our highest priority.” Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Tribal Chairman Daryl D. Gardipe said.

RSIC apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and thanked head staff, the host drum, dancers, singers, handgame participants, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, visitors and community members who had planned to attend.

On Wednesday September 2, President Donald Trump signed the emergency declaration for Nevada to fund Hawk Fire recovery efforts.
