Misuse of the emergency alert

It was my understanding it was the fire and rescue services that pressed the government to do it. So they didn't like the (entirely predictable) backlash? Shame. I wonder how many additional heart attacks and accidents there were due to people being frightened out of their wits? I thought at the very least, Moscow had launched an attack. I wasn't expecting a message to dumb people, to tell them not to do things smart people wouldn't do anyway. I strongly considered opting out, and will if there are more false alarms of this nature. I expect the alarm to mean there is an imminent threat to ME/my neighbourhood, requiring immediate action. I don't expect it to be used for general public information campaigns. What next? ”Eat your five-a-day”? "Get your flu' jab”?

Couldn’t agree more. I’d add that it will lessen people’s responsiveness to a genuine alert.

The absolute irony of telling the public only to use 999 if it’s an emergency… after the government triggering it by using an emergency broadcast system for not an emergency.

If it's a crim offence for us to misuse the 112 emergency number, it should be similarly an offence for them to alert 'us' in this manner.
I mean this'll never happen because of the melts ruining this country.
Quite why people have this switched on, I will never understand. If there's a real emergency, I expect plod driving around with a loudspeaker car.

This alert should be used when the next dinghy is due that way millions will adhere to it and push it back to France,
that's all that it is good for,
not the shit they use it for
but in saying that most people have switched it off because, useless,,,,

I didn’t receive it as I disabled the facility the first time they trialled it. I don’t want them being able to access my phone.

Also, today I had reason to talk to the tax office who, at the end of the call, asked me if I wanted to sign up for voice recognition (in order to ‘prevent my account being hijacked’). I told them they spied on me enough via facial recognition cameras without me voluntarily enabling them to identify my voice.

So – they’re trying Digital ID forced through via having to sign up for a government account to access services, facial recognition cameras all over the place, DNA testing at birth & now voice recognition.

Someone, please, make it stop.

Same as a public office building fire alarm activation is there to save lives and to use spuriously will only cause people to ignore
